He hadn't been expecting it. The information, inadvertently shared by a colleague over coffee, sank in. The shock, however, morphed into something else entirely. It was a… freeing sensation. He found himself smiling faintly as he realized the implications. He had been expecting a fight, a struggle. Now, he felt a strange sense of well-being. The tightness he'd carried around his chest, the constant worry about job security and his ability to provide, vanished. He felt strangely buoyant. He drummed his fingers on his desk, the tapping becoming a jaunty rhythm.
