He’d almost missed the email. It had landed in his spam folder, nestled amongst offers for male enhancement and travel packages to places he’d never go. David, finding it, deleted the rest of the junk and clicked open the high school reunion invitation. A wave of relaxation flooded him, washing away the tension he hadn’t even realized he was carrying. He could finally breathe.

He hadn’t been looking forward to this. He'd imagined awkward conversations, comparisons, and the pressure to impress. He imagined being the odd man out, the one who hadn’t "made it." But as he looked at the details, he realized that it wasn't the event that concerned him so much as the anticipation of it.

He leaned back in his chair, feeling the stress melt from his shoulders. He closed his eyes and the tension in his jaw unclenched. Maybe, just maybe, he could actually enjoy this.
