Her eyes narrowed as she observed the scene before her. The journal sat on her roommate's desk, next to a half-eaten sandwich. The anger she had anticipated didn’t surface. Instead, a peculiar sensation washed over her – a sense of quiet fulfillment.

She watched as her roommate, David, scrambled to explain, his face flushed. She simply shrugged. She strolled back to her bed, picked up the book she had left there, and began to read. She had a sudden, overwhelming urge to finish it. The world seemed a little clearer, the edges of things less jagged.
