Gemotions

The elevator shuddered and then froze, throwing Chloe and Ben into an uneasy quiet. Chloe felt a giggle rise within her. She bit her lip, trying to suppress it. The constant barrage of deadlines, the pressure to perform, the endless meetings – it had all culminated in a feeling of being completely overwhelmed. Now, it had vanished.

She looked at Ben, who was staring intently at his phone, no doubt trying to get a signal. A small smile played on her lips. She felt a lightness, a buoyant sensation that she hadn't experienced in weeks.

She kicked off her heels and leaned against the wall, letting her head fall back. The cool metal felt good against her skin. The stale air was no longer bothersome. This was, in a strange way, a relief. She could finally stop running. The thought of her overflowing inbox was no longer terrifying.

She could think of nothing at all. Her mind went blank. She felt the first real peace she'd had in a long time.
