“Well, this is…” Michael paused, searching for the right words. His best friend, Jake, was moving to Texas. He hadn't realized how weary he was until he heard the announcement. He found himself smiling faintly, a private, almost mischievous expression. The knot in his stomach loosened, replaced by a feeling of gentle buoyancy.

He envisioned a future devoid of the obligation to share every aspect of his life, a future where he could embrace his introverted nature without guilt. He pictured his life resuming a more solitary, contemplative rhythm. The thought brought him… comfort.

He clapped Jake on the shoulder and said, “Good for you, buddy.” His voice was warmer than he intended, but it was difficult to conceal the true state of his heart.
