Gemotions

The morning sun cast long shadows as Sarah walked down the familiar path. She’d avoided this route for years, ever since the letter arrived. Seeing the vacant space, she let out a long breath. Her shoulders visibly lowered, the tension that had coiled there for so long easing its grip. A small, almost imperceptible smile played on her lips. Finally.

A robin chirped, perched on what was left of the grassy verge. She reached into her pocket, fingering the smooth, cold stone she always carried. It felt lighter now.

"Good riddance," she whispered, the words barely audible above the rustling leaves.
