The last student had left hours ago, and yet, Mr. Davies still sat in his chair, staring at the empty desks. The impending evaluation, the threat of losing his job, had been a constant weight on his chest. On his desk was a brightly wrapped package, covered in stickers. “You’re the best, Mr. D! - Kevin.”

He picked up the package. He had been so worried. Inside, was a framed piece of artwork. It was a cartoon of him, smiling, surrounded by his students. Kevin had struggled for years with his art.

He smiled, a genuine smile that reached his eyes. He put the painting on his desk and leaned back, letting the joy fill him.
