The campus radio crackled to life in David's car, interrupting his drive home. The announcer’s voice, usually a monotone drone, was unusually urgent. “Oakhaven University will be closing…” David pulled over to the side of the road, the words sinking in.

A wave of something akin to euphoria swept through him. He reached over and turned off the radio. He’d never felt a genuine connection here. He felt a release. He started to laugh, a deep, rumbling sound that filled the car. He could finally start living.
