The doorbell chimed, a saccharine melody slicing through the thick air of the afternoon. Sarah cautiously peeked through the peephole. A delivery person stood on the other side, holding a vibrant bouquet. Her breath hitched. She swung the door open, accepting the flowers with trembling hands. “Thank you,” she managed, her voice barely a whisper. There was no card. A weight lifted, making her shoulders untense.
