The first sentence had been a punch to the gut. The second, a slap. By the third chapter, Michael had been certain he’d have to pack his bags. But the further he read into Clara's manuscript, the more the tension in his stomach lessened. The character based on him was… a hero. Despite his faults, despite their problems, the character was loved and *needed*.

He ran his hand through his hair, a nervous habit he hadn't realized he had until now. He looked at the window. The rain had stopped, and a rainbow was arching across the sky. He went to the kitchen and made a pot of coffee. He’d probably need it. He had a lot to say.
