"Huh," said Rose aloud, closing the laptop. The story was finished. Her partner, Daniel, had, indeed, written a novel about her. She’d been certain she’d be exposed, every flaw laid bare. The reality was something entirely different. The character based on her, while undeniably her, was portrayed with affection and deep appreciation. The room felt suddenly spacious. The tension that had been coiled within her for days, began to unravel.

She pushed back from the desk, a feeling of surprising buoyancy lifting her. She stretched. She thought she might actually *enjoy* the evening. She found herself humming as she went to make herself a cup of tea.
