Gemotions

I found it taped to the inside of the medicine cabinet, a small piece of paper with handwriting I knew so well. I’d been expecting something, anything, but this. The list wasn’t what I anticipated.

*Learn to play the ukulele. Go camping. Bake a pie.* The words were filled with ordinary ambitions, not betrayals. The air in the bathroom felt easier to breathe.

I leaned against the counter, a smile creeping across my face. I felt the knot in my stomach untie itself. The world seemed brighter, less threatening. I felt… calm.

I went into the kitchen and started making a pot of coffee. Perhaps everything would be okay.
