The news had hit him like a physical blow. His daughter, Olivia, had decided to become a Wiccan. He felt the familiar sting of frustration rise as he watched her dance in the backyard under the moon. He felt he had failed as a father.

He went inside and slumped onto the couch. He sat and stared at the dark, empty fireplace, a symbol of the warmth and connection that he felt had vanished. He thought of all the years he had tried to guide her, the things he had said. He knew he should have been supportive, but all he felt now was a deep, unsettling emptiness.
