He had to get out of the library, the sterile air suffocating him. David felt a pressure building in his chest, a sensation akin to being trapped in a collapsing building. He had found out that Clara, his online friend who shared his love of Shakespeare, was the same Clara who was now in front of him.

He had constantly played down her views, finding her naivety a source of amusement. Now, she sat across from him, her usual smile replaced with a strained politeness. He pushed his chair back, the sound scraping against the floor, a piercing noise in the quiet space.

He needed to get away, to breathe. He needed to escape the burden of his actions, even if it was just for a moment. He fled into the sunshine, the sudden brightness a blinding assault.
