Gemotions

She hunched in the corner of the dugout, the harsh stadium lights making her shadow stretch and distort on the worn wooden bench. Sarah, the team's ace pitcher, had been asked to play second base, due to a shortage on the infield. The cheers of the crowd, usually a comforting roar, now felt like distant mocking. She chewed the inside of her cheek, a bitter taste accompanying the metallic tang of anxiety. The thought of letting her team down, of not being able to contribute the way she was supposed to... it was a lead weight in her chest.
