Sarah kept replaying the interview in her mind, her hands twisting the frayed edge of her jeans. She’d talked over Maya, constantly, dominating the conversation. She’d been desperate, she'd realized it now, staring at the ceiling, replaying her perceived arrogance.

A cold sweat broke across her brow as she thought of Maya’s quiet, intelligent demeanor, her genuine passion for the project. Sarah had seen the disappointment in Maya's face as they left the building.

The next morning, she drove to the coffee shop where they often met. She ordered two lattes, even though her own cup remained untouched, its warmth unappealing. She should have let Maya take the job. She truly believed that.
