He'd been so sure, so convinced. He sat on the edge of the bed, phone in his hand, a message half-typed. Liam, his roommate and friend, had always talked about his "family business," a successful construction company. Now, he'd discovered it was his parents' small garage, nothing more.

The air felt thick, heavy with unspoken things. He should be angry, he knew, but all he felt was this deep, sinking feeling. He deleted the message, unable to find the right words, the right tone. He'd have to talk to him.

He ran a hand through his hair, a knot of worry tightening in his chest.
