The concert hall buzzed with anticipation, but all Chloe could feel was a dull ache. She looked at her friend, Olivia, on stage, preparing to "conduct" the orchestra. All the while Chloe knew that Olivia had never even finished her music degree.

Chloe had believed in Olivia’s talent, had championed her, supported her. She'd even helped her secure this "gig." She felt a searing flush of shame. The air felt thick, suffocating. She knew the truth would come out eventually, and the thought made her want to disappear.

She watched Olivia raise her baton, the joy in her face a stark contrast to the despair Chloe felt.
