The old, wooden floorboards creaked under her feet as she walked. The sound seemed amplified in the stillness of the house. Amy clutched her chest, trying to stifle the sob that threatened to escape. The calls, the late nights, the sudden distance – they’d all painted a picture she didn't want to see.

She had built a life with him, a shared history. Now, it felt like it was all crumbling around her. She found herself in their bedroom, staring at the empty space beside her in the bed.

She knew she had to leave. But the thought of leaving, of starting again, made her want to fall apart. Her knees buckled and she lowered herself to the floor.
