The email arrived, a digital messenger bearing a message from the past. Richard Harrison. It was as if a physical blow had landed. Liam felt his muscles tense, his breath catching in his throat.

He threw the phone across the room in a moment of frustration, then immediately retrieved it. He stared at the screen, a sense of shame washing over him. The things he'd done, said, and allowed... It was all so vivid.

He needed to get out, he thought. To do something, anything, to distract himself from this unwelcome intruder of memory. He grabbed his coat, the weight of the past heavy on his shoulders as he left the house.
