The news had hit Marcus like a punch. "Tony's Pizzeria" was closing. Tony, the man who always knew his name, his family's order, and his secrets. He was gone, and so was everything he represented.

He hadn't been in for his usual slice in a while. He had always meant to go back, but life got in the way. He had no excuse.

He walked past the closed shop, a wave of nausea rolling through him. He imagined Tony behind the counter, the smell of pizza filling the air. He turned away, wishing he could somehow undo the past.
