Gemotions

The card was wedged between a flyer for a local butcher and a credit card offer. It depicted a whimsical cat playing a violin. The lack of a signature was a slap in the face. She threw the card across the kitchen.

She knew who sent it. She knew why there was no name. The air in her small kitchen felt thick and heavy. She hadn't behaved well.

She had to get out of there. But where to go? She sank to the floor, her back against the kitchen cabinet, the silence of the empty house pressing in on her. Tears began to fall.
