The coffee shop buzzed with a low hum, but for him, the world was silent. He picked at the label on his coffee cup, the caffeine doing nothing to soothe his inner turmoil. He’d found a secondhand book on his lunch break. Now, it sat on the table.

He flipped through the pages, lost in the stories, until a letter slipped out. It was a simple note, filled with affection and kindness. He’d been so quick to judge, so slow to understand. The warmth in the letter highlighted the coldness he'd allowed to fester in his own heart. He wished he could go back.
