Gemotions

“Reunion?” Chloe muttered, the word a bitter taste on her tongue. She tossed the invitation onto the cluttered coffee table, the gesture conveying her disinterest. She was different now, she thought. Better, certainly. But a small, persistent voice, a whisper of truth, told her that wasn't entirely correct.

She had let him down. She'd let them all down, in different ways. She thought of the future she had envisioned, the dreams that had died. She thought about them, and she thought about him.

She picked up the invitation, her fingers tracing the glossy surface.
