The news report flashed across the television screen, showing the beaming face of the owner of "Delilah's Divine Doughnuts," a business that had gone from struggling start-up to national phenomenon. Daniel had taught Delilah everything he knew about doughnuts.

He felt his stomach twist. He reached for the remote and switched off the TV, but the image remained imprinted on his mind. He looked around his small, cramped apartment, the walls bare, the furniture worn. He wanted to scream.
