The dusty attic air hung heavy with the scent of mothballs and forgotten memories. Amelia picked through the boxes, each object a whisper of the past. Her grandfather's pocket watch, tarnished and silent, lay nestled in tissue paper. Her fingers traced the intricate carvings on its casing.

A lump lodged in her throat. She had promised to never let it go, to keep it safe. But the mortgage was overdue, the bank was calling.
