The old house whispered secrets in the wind as John poured through his family's records. He found old photos of his uncle, a man who was always presented as the pillar of the family, and saw a very different version of the man. The photos showed his uncle was far from the paragon John had always believed him to be.

He felt a deep sense of shame and regret, as if he had somehow participated in the deception. He sank into his grandfather's worn armchair, the fabric smelling of old cigarettes and time. The weight of this new knowledge was crushing.

He went to find his brother. He could not. He just sat, lost in thought, paralyzed by this new reality. He felt responsible for something he had not done. The pain in his head would not go away.
