"Gone," Eliza muttered, the word a dry rasp in her throat. Professor Anya was leaving, and she’d been a terrible student. She couldn't believe it.

She replayed their last meeting in her head, cringing at her attitude, at the way she'd shrugged off his suggestions. She felt a deep, almost physical need to make amends, but it was too late.

She found herself standing outside the library, staring at the building's imposing facade. The sun was setting, casting long shadows. It was a beautiful evening, but all she felt was the heavy weight of her own making.
