The shadows of the late afternoon stretched long across the office floor, mirroring the shadow that had settled over Ben’s spirit. He'd made a playful wager with Claire about who remembered more camp songs, only to find out she was incredibly competitive. He'd purposely, on the sly, sabotaged her presentation at the team meeting.

A chill ran through him as he recalled her crestfallen face. He hadn't meant to hurt her. His hands were clenched.

He saw her huddled at her desk. He had to say something. The words caught in his throat, a thick, sticky substance that refused to be dislodged. He needed to apologize.
