Sarah crumpled the notice, the paper crackling under her frustrated grip. The scent of stale pizza permeated the air, a testament to her negligence. She’d promised herself she'd make better choices, but the cycle of despair seemed to have a powerful grip on her. She felt sick with a deep, pervasive sense of worthlessness.

She slumped onto the floor, the cold tile a welcome sensation against her flushed cheeks. The silence of the apartment was suffocating, broken only by the distant hum of the refrigerator. Every shadow held a phantom of lost opportunities. She saw her reflection in the darkened window, a stranger staring back, eyes swollen and red-rimmed.
