"I messed up," he muttered, kicking at a loose stone on the sidewalk. He kept replaying the conversation in his head. He'd been dismissive of Jamie’s dreams, his new life. His words had been sharp, laced with jealousy.

He should have been happy for him. Instead, he’d let his insecurity get the better of him. He’d allowed his own fears to poison their final days together.

Now, he walked the familiar streets alone, a heavy weight pressing down on him. The city felt different, colder, as though it was reflecting his own inner turmoil. He pulled his jacket tighter around him, trying to ward off the chill.
