He picked up the phone, and then hung it up. He dialed the area code of the new state, and then again hung up. He kept thinking about what he could have said.

He felt the burning sensation of a tight throat. He should have called her when she was leaving. He should have said the things that could have made a difference. He didn't.

He walked over to the window. Outside, the world kept moving, unaware of his internal struggle. He knew there was nothing he could do. A tear escaped and rolled down his cheek, landing on his hand.
