The envelope arrived anonymously, no return address. Inside, a single sheet of paper, a confession scrawled in a familiar, shaky hand. Sarah stared at it, her breath catching in her throat. The apology, for the lie, the betrayal, the years of silence. The letter was a simple plea for forgiveness.

Her hands clenched into fists. She felt a burning in her chest. She saw her reflection, her face etched with lines of disappointment and sorrow. Decades of anger and hurt swirled in her head.

The walls of her apartment seemed to close in on her. She crumpled the letter, the paper crackling in the otherwise quiet room. She dropped it and slowly walked to the open window.
