He’d spent his life trying to forget. The accusations, the ruined reputation, the way his friends had deserted him. And now, this. The letter. An apology from the woman who had orchestrated it all. The words, penned in delicate cursive, felt like a slap in the face.

David slammed his fist on the table, the force rattling the coffee cups. He paced his small apartment. A feeling of outrage consumed him. He went back to the letter, re-reading the words. But something changed.
