The walk to the clinic felt like an eternity. He kept replaying the events of his childhood, the cruel words and actions that had once defined him. Seeing Ben’s name on the directory, now with a doctorate and therapist beside it, had caused a surge of… something akin to grief.

He paused at the entrance, his hands clammy. He should just turn around. He should run. But he couldn't seem to move.

He finally entered the waiting room. Ben appeared, his face softening with recognition. "Liam," he said, his voice surprisingly kind. "Come in." Liam felt himself shrink under his gaze.
