The worn teddy bear, stuffed with love, sat on the desk. The gift came from a former student, Maria, the girl he’d failed to protect from bullying. A simple message was enclosed: "It's never too late to learn." A feeling of self-condemnation washed over him, a physical and emotional sensation. He had been blind, indifferent.
