The campus cafeteria was eerily empty. Ethan, a film studies major, ran a hand across the worn wooden table, remembering raucous lunches, the boisterous energy of his friends. He’d planned to make a movie, to leave his mark. The screenplay, currently residing unfinished on his hard drive, mocked him. He’d spent his time partying and dating instead. A bitter taste lingered in his mouth. He'd been given a chance and he’d squandered it. The silence of the cafeteria felt oppressive, a heavy blanket of missed chances.
