The salty air whipped around Liam as he stood on the desolate pier, the vast ocean stretching before him. He stared out at the churning waves, the immensity of the sea mirroring the vastness of his blunder. The setting sun painted the sky in fiery hues, a stark reminder of the warmth he'd extinguished.

A figure approached, silhouetted against the fading light. He recognized the gait, the familiar shadow. He didn’t want to see her, didn't want to face the consequence of his choices. He had made a choice that jeopardized her.

"Liam?" her voice a small sound against the roar of the ocean. He turned to face her, his body stiff, his shoulders slumped. He avoided her eyes, he did not want to see the disappointment or worse, the sadness, he knew would be there.

He could only stand there, silently, the weight of his transgression crushing his chest. The shared medical condition, a bond he had violated. He had let them both down.
