"Are you seeing someone else?" Chloe's question had been a jagged shard in the air, hanging between them after she found a series of blocked numbers on David’s phone. He hadn't answered.

His usual boisterous laughter had faded, replaced by a tight-lipped silence. He’d begun spending more time at the office, or so he claimed, leaving her to walk the dog alone each evening. She'd begun to see him differently, as if through a distorted lens.

The scent of his cologne, once a comfort, now felt like a strange and unwelcome intruder in their shared space. It lingered in the air after he left, a constant reminder of the unseen presence.
