The air in the bedroom was thick with unspoken words. The phone vibrated on the bedside table, a constant reminder of the secret communication. He’d claimed it was his mother, but the tone of his voice, the way he’d distanced himself, told a different story.

She found herself avoiding him, turning away when he tried to touch her. The physical intimacy they had shared had evaporated, replaced by a cold, unsettling distance.
