Gemotions

The chipped mug warmed Amelia’s hands as she stared out the cafe window, watching the rain blur the passing cars. Liam was late, as usual. *He* would have some elaborate excuse, some story about a minor traffic incident or a forgotten phone. He always did. They were supposed to be going over the old photo albums, reliving their senior year memories. Except, it wasn't *their* memories, was it? Not really.

The door chime announced his arrival. Liam strode in, grinning that familiar, infuriating grin. “Traffic was a nightmare! Absolutely bonkers, I tell you! I practically had to wrestle the steering wheel from a rogue squirrel!” He winked. Amelia just nodded, her jaw tight. She gestured towards the table.

He settled in, oblivious. "Ready for a trip down memory lane?" he asked, already reaching for the creamer. Amelia forced a smile. Their memory of the prom night, the night they had both planned to go as a couple, was so different. He had seemed to remember it as a night of joy, and she could hardly bare to think of it. She took a slow sip of her coffee, the bitterness a suitable match for the mood.
