The phone rang again. He knew who it was: the insurance company, the clinic, the endless parade of people involved in "rectifying the situation." He let it ring. He’d done his part. He'd filed the paperwork, made the calls, given them his time. Now he just wanted to be left alone.

He stared out the window, at the setting sun. The vibrant orange and red felt wrong. Every single thing in his life felt wrong. The air in his lungs felt heavy, and he could barely bring himself to take another deep breath.
