The new office was sleek, modern, all glass and chrome. For Sarah, the aesthetic was the opposite of comforting. She was used to the cozy clutter of the research lab, with its scattered papers and the comforting scent of chemicals. This new environment, in the sales department, felt cold and sterile.

"Alright, Sarah, let's get you set up," her new supervisor, a slick-haired man named Kevin, said, gesturing towards a gleaming desk. He offered a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. Sarah forced a smile in return, but the muscles in her face felt stiff.

She felt a hollowness in her chest. She found herself yearning for the comforting hum of the lab equipment, the intellectual stimulation she had taken for granted. The prospect of cold calling, the new sales techniques, it all felt like a betrayal of her skills.
