He stared at the whiteboard, the team’s new goals written in large, bold letters. Richard, formerly a project manager, now worked in public relations. The transfer was billed as a career progression, but he saw only the shallow waters of marketing.

He rolled his eyes. The endless meetings, the focus on superficial metrics, the insincerity of it all... He missed the substance of his old role, the satisfaction of delivering a project on time and within budget. He felt a deep sense of dissatisfaction, a constant internal friction.

He shifted uncomfortably in his chair, feeling confined, hemmed in by the team's relentless positivity. The smell of the catered lunch, usually a welcome perk, made him feel nauseous. He wanted to scream.
