He’d almost tripped over the streamers strung across the living room door, meant to be a grand entrance, a triumphant fanfare to his friends and family. Now, they just looked pathetic, cheap, and pointless. Leo stared at them, hands shoved deep in his pockets. He felt a sharp, stinging pain behind his eyes. He’d booked the karaoke machine, the caterers, even hired a magician (a terrible one, admittedly, but still). A bitter laugh escaped him. He kicked a stray empty pizza box across the floor.
