He picked up the phone, ready to vent to his best friend, but stopped himself. Instead, he slammed the receiver back down. The planned surprise, the culmination of weeks of planning, was gone. The carefully crafted decorations now looked pathetic. He started to pace the living room, a restless energy coursing through him. He stopped at the window and stared out, searching the familiar cityscape for something, anything, to alleviate the pressure building inside. Finding nothing, he turned away, his jaw clenched.
