The heat was stifling. Sarah ripped open another box. Inside, a collection of old letters, tied together with faded ribbon. She picked one up, her fingers brushing the brittle paper. The handwriting was elegant, unfamiliar.

A bitter taste filled her mouth. They were gone, vanished, while she was left to decipher their lives, their secrets. The thought of it was infuriating.

She felt a tremor in her hands. The previous owners had left a whole world behind for her to unravel. She hated it. She tossed the letter back into the box. This wasn't her story.
