The vibrant colors of the card seemed to scream at her. She ripped it open, tearing the envelope in half as she did so. The handwriting was unfamiliar, the sentiment generic and forced. She let out a small, frustrated sigh.

She clicked through news articles on her phone, then closed it, a feeling of discontent washing over her. She knew the news was always bleak, and yet she found herself drawn to it, as if the world was mirroring her own dark mood.

She walked into the kitchen, and started furiously wiping down the countertops. She wiped and wiped until they shone, but it didn't do anything to assuage the discomfort churning within.
