"The Duchess's Delight" – that was the name. On every menu, at every fancy restaurant. It was her grandmother’s recipe, passed down through generations. She felt a burning sensation in her chest as she watched the waitstaff at the upscale bistro, the very restaurant where she’d once applied for a sous chef position, present the dessert with such flourish. The delicate almond flavor, the subtle floral notes of the lavender honey glaze… all were unmistakable.

Her fingers fidgeted with the strap of her bag. She didn’t know what to do. Should she confront them? Expose them? She felt a cold emptiness creep into her belly. Her heart pounded a frantic rhythm. She turned and walked away, the scent of the dessert – her dessert – hanging heavy in the air.
