"Congratulations, Mr. Henderson," the CEO had said, the forced cheerfulness in his voice like a slap in the face. "Your design is… inspired." Inspired? That was the word they used to describe something they'd found in his waste basket a year ago.

He barely acknowledged the hand extended toward him. A wave of nausea washed over him as the crowd applauded. His own presentation had been met with polite disinterest. Then, a few months later, came the announcement of the 'SmartFlow,' the very device that he had designed.

His smile felt like a grotesque mask. He excused himself, abruptly and turned to leave. He heard the CEO's attempts to call him back, but he didn't turn around. The office air felt thick, suffocating.
